Colorado DOT Statewide Roadway Design Manual – Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Design Chapter

Established by new state transportation commission policy and CDOT procedural directives, this new chapter in the statewide Roadway Design Manual is one of the most advanced in the Nation. Landis Evans + Partners, formerly Sprinkle Consulting, is the primary author, working closely with a statewide steering committee and in collaboration across the state with CDOT Regional Engineers and Headquarters staff developing an innovative design manual with comprehensive facilities design approaches for the active transportation modes including equestrian facilities design. Slated for adoption this spring, this is an unprecedented statewide collaborative effort incorporating some of the most innovative, yet safe and reliable operational designs from across a state well-known for progressive cities with extensive networks for bicycle, pedestrian and other active transportation modes. The design guidelines integrate design approaches from across the United States that have proven to be safe, effective, and operationally reliable. Landis Evans and prime consultant Felsburg Holt & Ullevig are also developing the statewide training course series for all CDOT regions and local governments for comprehensive application of this new design guideline.
