Elected officials requested this investigation of the need and feasibility of a designated mid-block crossing of a busy state arterial. Landis Evans staff developed an innovative synchronized camera system to track 24-7 pedestrians’ routes traversing this section of arterial to determine sufficiency of crossing opportunities and pedestrian protection levels. Through the use of insightful pedestrian pathways mapping and descriptive statistics, the adequacy of crossing was assessed and recommendations made for objective arterial safety and operations management decisions.
